Google buys Spirit Airlines data for AI training
Google purchased Spirit Airlines’ internal records for $10 million during bankruptcy proceedings, acquiring 100 million emails, payroll files, and 175,658 employee records dating to 1986, excluding passenger data. The Association of Flight Attendants protests privacy risks, as deidentification promises don’t cover employee information. Former staff could be reidentified via scheduling or disciplinary patterns, exposing sensitive health or legal discussions without enforceable rights to challenge breaches.
