Google could build more AI accelerators than Nvidia sells in 2028, analyst claims — could push the company to use Intel Foundry to meet its goals

Google plans to deploy 12–15 million of its 9th-gen TPUs by 2028, potentially surpassing Nvidia’s projected 12.4 million AI GPU shipments that year. Each TPU v9 will use four compute chiplets, doubling capacity consumption from 2027. To meet this massive scale, Google may need Intel Foundry’s capacity alongside TSMC. This would make Google the world’s largest consumer of AI accelerators, emphasizing vertical integration. While not diminishing Nvidia’s dominance, it highlights Google’s software stack advantage and growing reliance on custom AI hardware.
