Google grant for Hastings Utilities
Google has awarded Hastings, Nebraska a $1.26 million grant to restore Well 17 near Lake Hastings. The well was decommissioned due to high nitrate levels. The grant will fund a dual-pump system that draws low-nitrate water from deep in the aquifer for municipal use, blended to meet safety standards. High-nitrate water from shallow levels will be used for irrigation. The grant covers all capital, operation, and maintenance costs for 10 years, freeing up $900,000 in city funds for other projects. Annual reporting to Google is required.
