Google says new pages take about 20 hours to be found, some never are

At Search Central Live Deep Dive Europe in Barcelona (September 30–October 2, 2026), Google analyst Gary Illyes presented internal timing data, recapped by ROAST’s John Campbell. Typical timelines: new URL discovery ~20 hours; refresh ~30 days; indexing end-to-end ~1.5 hours; site moves 1–3 months; core update recovery 3–6 months. Slowest cases span weeks to months, or “never” when Google judges pages low-quality. The recaps, covering crawling, indexing, and serving, also detailed crawl budget, rendering, canonicalisation, structured data, and AI Mode growth.
