Google to Pay $354 Million to Settle App Developer Class Action
Alphabet Inc. will pay £260 million ($354 million) to settle a UK class action accusing Google of abusing its dominance via excessive Play Store commissions charged to app developers. Filed by competition law professor Barry Rodger, the claim covers UK developers selling digital content since August 2018. Approval is pending a September tribunal hearing. This marks the largest settlement under the UK’s 2015 competition class action regime, per lawyer Damien Geradin. A separate UK class action from Android users remains unresolved. Google hasn’t commented.
