World’s ‘largest’ grid battery part of Google-Xcel Energy agreement
Google and Xcel Energy plan to build the world’s largest battery project (300 MW/30 GWh) in Minnesota to support a new Google data center. The battery, using Form Energy’s iron-air technology for multi-day storage, will be paired with 1.6 GW of new wind and solar power. Google will fund the project through a special tariff and also contribute $50 million to Xcel’s grid-supporting battery program. Form Energy expects to ship the first battery modules by late 2028.
