Zohran Mamdani takes oath of office in abandoned NYC subway station, becoming city’s 112th mayor
Zohran Mamdani became New York City’s 112th mayor in a private midnight ceremony on New Year’s Eve, sworn in by Attorney General Letitia James. The 34-year-old Democratic socialist is the city’s first Muslim and first South Asian mayor. He will hold a public inauguration on Thursday, with a block party celebration in Lower Manhattan. Mamdani also announced Mike Flynn as his new Transportation Commissioner, tasked with advancing goals like free buses.
