Gen Mamady Doumbouya wins presidency by landslide
Deal Score0
Guinea’s junta leader Gen Mamady Doumbouya has won the presidential election with 86.7% of the vote, provisional results show. He seized power in a 2021 coup, promising not to run, but later changed the constitution to allow his candidacy. The main opposition parties were barred from contesting, and rivals have alleged widespread irregularities, including ballot stuffing. A civil society group called the vote a “charade” and claimed low turnout, despite official figures of over 80%. The win grants Doumbouya a seven-year mandate, pending final validation by the Supreme Court.
