Google set to test vertical search rivals in EU results as DMA fine looms

Google is preparing to test changes to its European search results to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The test will show rival vertical search services (like hotel and flight comparison sites) by default, alongside Google’s own results. This move aims to avoid potential DMA fines of up to 10% of global revenue. Google has faced over €9.7 billion in EU antitrust fines since 2017 and argues previous compliance changes have harmed European businesses. The changes will first roll out for lodging searches before expanding to other categories.
